Adopting your new Fur Angel begins with Research

The average lifespan of a Shih Tzu is 12-15+ years and  it is our sincere desire that every one of our puppies find their lifetime home where they will be loved and spoiled.  We encourage you to research the breed, ask questions!  Even if you never purchase a puppy from us we are willing to answer any question you may have about the breed in general or our specific puppies. We want to make sure every pet owner makes an informed decision about adding a new member to their family.  We believe that one picture is not enough to make that decision.  We take many pictures of our puppies, their parents and family.  We invite you to come visit and spend time with our dogs; we are confident you will see the difference!  While we do not allow visitors until our puppies are a minimum of four weeks old, ( for their safety) we will meet you at a local dog park/ park with some of our other dogs so you can get to know us and our babies, if our babies our too young for visitors.  All visitors must wash and sanitize their hands and remove their shoes, ( parvo loves to stick to shoes) before handling our babies.  We encourage those who do not have the time or the money to buy from a quality breeder to adopt from your local rescue group and humane society.  You get what you pay for, what you may save initially by purchasing a cheap puppy you will more than make up for in vet bills or worse. Even though you may think you just want a pet AKC is the only  American registry that does not register mutts.  Champion bloodlines are also important because people who show work hard to cull out genetic diseases and insure the confirmation and Shih Tzu "look" remain to breed standard. It is important to purchase a puppy from a breeder who knows and researches their lines.  This is after all, part of the reason most people purchase a purebred is for consistency in temperament, size, health and looks.  By continuing to buy "cheap" puppies from back yard breeders, puppy mills, commercial kennels and pet brokers you are only keeping these people in business and contributing to the number of unwanted and unhealthy pets.  No matter what they tell you, pet store puppies are from puppy and commercial kennels.  Pet store staff have little or no knowledge of the breeds they sell and pet stores purely operate for profit.   They will sell you what they have "in stock" and will convince you that is the best breed for you no matter what type of dog.  Most pet store dogs are from commercial kennels or puppy mills.  Ask yourself how you can buy the puppy in the window without knowing the condition its mother lives in and without knowing the temperament and health of its parents?  We try to keep our prices competitive and will take payments to help accommodate different financial situations.  However we will not cut the care of our babies or our adults just to make a buck.  So if you are looking for a happy, healthy Fur Angel from a breeder that won't make sacrifices you have come to the right place!
Adopting from Beauty and the Beast Shih Tzu

Adopting from us is not as simple as buying the "puppy in the window" at a pet store or being the highest bidder.  We try to chose the best situation for each one of our babies based on the new families lifestyle and the temperament and approximate size of each of our babies.  We will not place teeny tiny puppies into homes with young children, as we feel it is not fair to either your child our are babies.  We will not place teeny tiny females into breeding homes either.  We believe these tiny princesses deserve to be spoiled rotten lap babies and that God has created them for this reason.

Please allow us to spend more time with our babies and adults by providing us with the following information when you email or call:

* Your name and contact number
* Please tell us about the family members and pets of your household
* Specify what type of Shih Tzu you are interested in (female/ male, pet/ breeder/show home, what approximate size and color are you searching for?
* What experience, (if any) have you had with Shih Tzu?  Any questions about the breed we can answer?

We encourage you to also:
* carefully review our Guarantee
* consider all members of your family and how they may react to a new addition
* How will your new puppy come home to you?  Shipping generally costs $280.00.   We also offer low cost delivery and in person pick up in either our  Roseville or San Jose location.  Both of our locations are located within 5 minutes of the freeway. All puppies which will be delivered or driven more than 5 hours away will be be required to have a fecal test to examine them for internal parasites.  The cost of our shipping INCLUDES this expense.  When we quote you a delivery price we will also include this charge. Delivery/ shipping charges must be paid before the puppy is 8 weeks old so this may be performed, unless otherwise discussed.  All puppy families will have the option of paying for the fecal exam which will add $20.00 to their purchase price

*  A  real two year health guarantee
*  Your puppy will be well started on potty training and will be used to using a potty pad and or outside, (depending on the time of the year/ puppies age)
* your puppy will be used to an easy to follow and totally adaptable schedule.  Our puppies are trained to sleep through the night here, as I like my sleep.  We do not play with our puppies in the middle of the night. If they wake up we tend to their needs, (fresh potty pads, dry food, water, heat/ air conditioning sect.) and put them back to sleep so our puppies do not typically cry all night long when they go home and our used to eating/ going to a bathroom on a schedule as well
* our puppies are raised in exercise pens with their brothers and sisters.  We play with them for hours every day, supervised of course.  In the exercise pens we keep puppy beds, water, dry food, potty pads and toys.  Our babies begin learning at an early age not to soil where they eat or sleep, which makes crate training, (or other methods) a breeze.  They will also have a large yard to play in and will never be kenneled while in our care.
* Our puppies are raised in our household among other dogs and cats.  They are used to every day noises and will have been handled by both men and children as well.   They are ready to be companions when they go home to you.
*Grooming:  By the time our babies go home they are well started on grooming.  They have had their nails trimmed at least a couple times.  They will have had the hair trimmed around their private parts and occasionally around their eyes and foot pads for neatness and hygiene.   We will now be starting the babies on having their ear hair plucked and ears cleaned.  They have had their little bodies touched all over including their ears and their mouths opened- your vet, groomer and show handler will thank you for this.  They will have been brushed, bathed and blow dried several times.  They also will have been started on the grooming table.
*Boarding/ Vacation:  If you are going on vacations we will gladly care for your little one while you are away!  Please let us know as far ahead of time in advance so we make sure we have plenty of time to spoil your little one!  We ask you to provide toys, food and the puppies bed and make sure your baby is up to date on shots, worming, flea medication.  We will care for your baby for up to two days at no additional charge  and will offer VERY reasonable rates should your trip be longer
Shipping: If shipping is needed than the puppy will come with a crate, toy, fleece blanket, water bottle ( for water during their flight, nobody wants a baby who is wet and dirty when they come home), health certificate and fecal exam
*Lifetime home guarantee- If for some reason you are no longer able to care for your baby we ask that you return he/she to us and/ or we will help you find a suitable home.  We do not want any of our babies to end up in a shelter or worse!
* Lifetime VIP Beauty and the Beast family members:  when you adopt your second puppy from us we will give you a 15% discount.  Provided there is nobody with deposits ahead of you you will also have first priority on the waiting list
*  Lifetime of Support- We offer a lifetime of support for our babies.  Call or email- day or night and we would be happy to answer any question or concern you may have.  We look forward to pictures, updates and playdates!

We reserve the right to adjust prices on our puppies  to reflect confirmation, size and color development.   Though we we wish we did it is just impossible to no what size, color, confirmation or personality type a puppy will be when it is born.  We try to represent our puppies as honestly as possible because not only do we want to exceed your expectations we want the very best homes for our babies! We very rarely offer breeding rights on our puppies because it is our desire that our puppies be placed with their lifetime family.  If you are interested in a show/breeding dog please see our purchase page for more information before contacting us.
Prices will not be changed when a puppy is on a specific sale or when a deposit has been placed on a puppy.  We try to be as accurate as possible in terms of our size estimates, personality type ect.  We also reserve the right to cancel a sale at any time if we feel it is in the best interest of the puppy.  In that case all monies will be refunded.  The happiness and future of our fur babies is of our greatest importance.  We do our best to provide you with the puppy of your dreams!

Male or Female?

Everybody has a different opinion on this question!   Since I have had so many different breeds of dogs including both large and small breeds I can tell you there are breeds where the gender makes a HUGE difference!  I have found most Shih Tzu personalities are wonderful regardless of the gender but males tend to be sweeter and more endering than females.  Just because a dog is a male is no reason to discount them in favor of a female.  I often find that many of my males are the truly gorgeous one in my litters- but maybe that is just my bias.  Males are much more loving and get more attached to you than the females do.  As a general rule, males are my favorite, and if I had pets and not breeding dogs they would be males.  The females love me too but chasing a butterfly is their highlight of the day and they tend to want to group together in little groups and there is always a pecking order.   Even spayed females can be hormonal.  If you have multiple females expect that their urine may burn the lawn.  The boys love and get along with everyone. My little boys' main priority is being my shadow.  The main factor in people choosing a female over a male is that they worry about a male dog lifting their leg on things as they get older. I do not deny that if a male is left unaltered and around other dogs that they do tend to want to mark their territory. This is a natural instinct and is not the dog's fault!  If a male is neutered early enough, this generally does not happen and even some unuetered breeding dogs do not mark their territory- but why take the chance?  In fact, if they are neutered by 6 months of age, most never even lift their leg and squat like a female to pee. They don't have the slightest idea what marking territory is about.   I have found that most people who are objective to males had a bad experience because their male was not neutered in a timely manner.  My sister's 75 pound Boxer squats like a girl to pee- so believe me if he can do it a little Shih Tzu can too! Most people who have a problem with males lifting their leg after they have been neutered, have usually waited until they are adults or are already marking their territory before altering them.
